The Women’s Center of Calgary Now Accepts Bitcoin

Calgary may soon become a hub for the companies that are accepting. The latest entry is a charity organization called ‘the Women’s Center’ which has announced that it is going to accept Bitcoin from customers. Canada is one of the places in the global map which has Bitcoin ATMs and several companies embracing the digital currency, this is a new kind of announcement.

According to Sarelle Azuelos, communications coordinator at the centre they weren’t sure there was an interest, but decided to add the Bitcoin option when a Calgary-based company, Bitcoin Brains, offered to set them up at no cost. Azuelos added that the company has just over three hundred dollars so far.

Azuelos further added that it’s still a brand new portal on the website, but it is something that really depends on whether Bitcoin keeps growing in Calgary and in Canada, and if it gets to be more popular than the company hopes to see more come through. Bitcoin which is emerging as a popular choice for charities has now new clients in Calgary.

Announcing the measure to accept Bitcoin the company says, “Your donation of Bitcoin is tax-deductible; the Women’s Centre will issue charitable tax receipts for donations over $10 (CAD). In order for us to issue an electronic tax receipt, you will need to enter both your e-mail and mailing address in full on the Bitcoin donation form.”

The company says that the Women’s Centre of Calgary is one of the first charitable organizations in the city to start accepting the decentralized, digital currency. The organization has long been providing a safe and supportive space accessed by thousands of women in Calgary annually.

According to the website of the organization, it offers women opportunities to both, receive and provide support, connect with others and build community through a variety of programs. It makes it clear that while the Women’s Centre is open to all women, more than 80% of the women who access our services are living in poverty.

The charity organization says that it believes in the potential of every woman, and that women are strong and capable and according to its approach which starts by recognizing that women are experts in their own lives, and they know best what they need, it works sincerely towards their welfare. Adding Bitcoin to donations lists, it has moved one step further.
