Not all but a single location of the Holiday Inn hotel chain will be accepting Bitcoin in New York City. The information was given by none but Charlie Shrem who announced that a single location of the Holiday Inn hotel chain will be accepting Bitcoin. The heartening news for Bitcoin enthusiasts was awaited for long as Shrem has been working towards it for some time.
The announcement came from Charlie Shrem at the Bitcoin Fair which takes place at the Hester Street Fair and becoming a favorite spot for Bitcoiners. In the announcement Shrem said that he will be responsible for piloting the program at the hotel this week. It looks; his efforts are finally paying off as more businesses are agreeing to accept the digital currency.
Talking to media professionals Charlie Shrem said that for now the Park Slope Holiday Inn Express location on Union Street in Brooklyn which has become a hotspot amongst foreign travelers will be accepting the digital currency. He said that Bitcoin reservations can be made by phone, online, or in-person.
Charlie Shrem also indicated that depending on the response the hotel gets, it may or may not expand the program to other hotels. Thus, a lot of things depend on what kind of response the hotel chain gets from customers. He was heard saying that the hotel caters to European tourists and one of the things they are excited about is the fee savings and mitigating chargeback risk.
Will Reduce Processing Charges to a Great Extent
He cited the example and said that accepting a European credit card comes with almost double the fees as US credit cards and much more chargeback risk. Thus, it is not just convenience but monetary benefit for customers that are going to prompt them to go for booking hotel room at Holiday Inn in Bitcoin.
Charlie Shrem said that if it goes smoothly, his organization is planning on rolling it out across more locations and other hotels in their group. The encouraging news came after King’s College and Expedia.com announced they too would be accepting Bitcoin. The decision from education institute, and hotel booking agency is expected to encourage others to come forward.
Expedia has conveyed that depending on the success of that program it could expand acceptance to other services like flight booking as well; the condition is similar to the one that is being set by Holiday Inn Express Park Slope location. Most of the organizations are following the policy of ‘wait and watch’ and that is quite expected as none is sure about the success.
