Ohio AG DeWine Urges Caution when Drafting Medical Marijuana LawOhio Attorney General Mike DeWine, whilst acknowledging the polls that show most people back legalizing medical marijuana, said that he will support the new law but he is concerned about how it will be drafted.

“I think we have to be very careful, I would want to see that constraints are put in place to do that,” DeWine spoke in an interview with 10TV.  “Ultimately, it’s going to come to a vote for the voters of the state of Ohio.  We will follow whatever law that the voters approve.”

23 U.S. states and the Washington, District of Columbia have passed laws that legalize medical marijuana. Supporters of medical pot in Ohio wished to have a ballot initiative this year but were unable to achieve their aim after they failed to obtain adequate number of petition signatures.

However, DeWine said that he will not support any attempts to legalize pot for everybody as it is done in Colorado. DeWine’s rival David Pepper said he backs medical marijuana provided the law is formulated properly. Pepper’s campaign claims that states which have legalized medical marijuana have witnessed a significant decline in deaths due to prescription drug overdose.

Elsewhere, the first medical marijuana sales in Connecticut are scheduled to start next week after the state’s first marijuana grow company gets ready to deliver the product to dispensaries across the state, almost two years after medical use of the drug was approved.

Watertown-based Theraplant LLC is expected to deliver shipments on Monday, according to its chief operating officer Daniel Emmans. Six dispensaries were licensed statewide to distribute medical marijuana to patients. So far, 2,326 patients are registered to access medical marijuana in Connecticut.
