When customers are browsing through the website of the San Francisco-based merchant directory provider Yelp, they can now see the merchants that accept Bitcoin. The company has officially announced this new functionality that allows Bitcoin-accepting merchants to promote awareness of the payment method via its platform.
Finding the new attribute is easy as it is visible in Yelp profiles under the “More business info” section of all applicable entries. Along with mentioning some facts like whether the business accepts credit cards or has available parking, it also mentions whether it accepts Bitcoin. Browsing through the profile, customers know the stand taken by the company vis-à-vis digital currency.
The measure on the part of the company was long awaited as several new outlets started accepting the digital currency a long time ago. In fact, some rumors of the new feature were circulated since as far back as 10th April, however, the official announcement came from its blog for the first time.
Confirming the rumors, Yelp said that as a business owner, a person can let his customers know his company’s decision whether it is accepting Bitcoin by logging into his free business owner tools on biz.yelp.com and updating the payment attributes. The company says that the new feature will help not just the customers but the company as well.
Bitcoin as New Payment Option Makes Transactions Smooth and Safe
Yelp thinks that the new feature matters a lot, particularly for those who haven’t heard the buzz about Bitcoin, a new payment technology that allows consumers and businesses to make fast, secure and low-cost digital payments from any Internet-enabled device. Thus, adding the new feature, the company is willing to go one step further to help both customers and companies.
In its blog, Yelp says that Bitcoin also allows for consumers and businesses to transact without having to store sensitive data like a credit card number. It also says that like cash, Bitcoin’s transactions are one-way, so businesses don’t have to worry about chargeback which according to it should attract new business accept Bitcoin.
Hoping that the introduction of the Bitcoin attribute will provide yet another way for consumers to connect with great local businesses, Yelp thinks that this will definitely help both customers and businesses who are into Bitcoin. At the same time, even new businesses that are listed in Yelp will be encouraged to accept the digital currency.
