Mel B, better known as Mel B or Melanie B, an English R&B and pop recording artist, has announced that she will be charging in Bitcoin for her performances. She will thus be the first mainstream musician to accept Bitcoin as payment for her work. The singer whose real name is Melanie Brown would be teaming up with Cloudhashing.com for the service.
Thus, with collaborating with Cloudhashing.com, she will allow her fans to purchase a copy of her upcoming single “For Once in My Life” in exchange of Bitcoin from this Christmas onward. Mel B who is a famed songwriter, dancer, actress, author, television presenter and model decided to accept Bitcoin as she feels that it is a currency of the future.
‘Bitcoin Unites My Fans,’ Says Mel B
In her press release Mel B explained the decision and admitted that the decision is aimed to cater the requirement from her fans as according to her, Bitcoin unites her fans around the world using one currency. She said that her fans can now just pay using Bitcoins and buy the musical album online.
Mel B who was born in Harehills, Leeds, England, to an English mother, Andrea, and a Nevisian father, Martin, will be one of the few giant celebrities that are helping Bitcoin reach to new places and new sectors. Within five years, Bitcoin has started getting attention and acceptance from mainstream sectors. Recently, Canada got the first Bitcoin ATM to cater the requirements from users.
Currently, whereas “For Once in my Life” is priced at $0.99 on iTunes, Bitcoin is trading close to $850. A week ago, Bitcoin was trading above $1000, having fallen after China disallowed financial transactions in Bitcoin.
The buyers who buy using credit cards need to pay transaction charges, which put an extra burden on their pockets. However, when they do it through Bitcoin, they are charged less.
Bitcoin Going Mainstream
Not long ago, rebel Billionaire and Virgin head Richard Branson announced that he had invested in Bitcoin and he has great faith in the virtual currency. He also declared that Virgin Galactic, one of his ventures will accept Bitcoin for the services it offers for customers. Companies like OkCupid, Reddit, and WordPress already accept the currency.
Earlier in the first week of this month Snoop Dogg joked on Twitter that his next album would be “available in Bitcoin n delivered in a drone.”
